Deon van Zyl is a Clinical Psychologist in private practice specialising in the processing and understanding of clients’ night dreams and sport psychology.

He is also an Education, Training and Development Consultant within a wide range of organizations.

ABOUT DEON VAN ZYL

Clinical Psychologist. Education, Training and Development Consultant. Deon is a former Associate Professor of Psychology at the University of Pretoria, where he lectured and practiced for 13 years. He obtained his B A (Hons) and M A (Clinical Psychology) degrees Cum Laude at the Rand Afrikaans University (now University of Johannesburg), and his D Phil degree at the University of Pretoria. He has multiple scientific and popular publications to his name, both nationally and overseas, including many book chapters. He is past chairperson of the South African Institute for Clinical Psychology and was awarded two Academic Merit awards from the Human Sciences Research Council, and a HSRC research award for a project entitled “Psychological Influences on Human Immune Responses”, showing the relationship between stress and the body’s immune systems. He spent a year in the USA on a post-doctoral grant from the Ernest Oppenheimer Memorial Trust. Deon co-presented 14 Television programs with Katinka Heyns on DSTV KykNet called “Bloudruk” about the triumph of the human spirit through pain and suffering and also presented 12 weekly inserts on the SuperSport Golf program Pitch and Putter on “Golf and the Mind.”. He delivered lectures, papers, workshops and training seminars countrywide in South Africa, in Kyoto Japan, Chicago, Asheville USA and the Netherlands, and has facilitated numerous training sessions and processes in a wide variety of industries and organizations. Deon also explores the interface between psychology and spiritual practices and has recently published a book available on Amazon Kindle on the psychology of the Bible books of Jonah and Job, entitled “Is Life Fair?”
